CV
Denise Gimbel b. 1955 Pontiac, Michigan
Education
1978 Bachelor of Arts, Andrew University, Michigan
1986 Master of Public Health, Loma Linda University, California
History
Raised in a family of artists and with dual citizenship in the United States and Canada, Gimbel has always
experienced life through her sketchbook. As she went on to raise her own family and manage a career in
nursing, Gimbel’s love for line and sketching was a constant. It was in 2017 while living in the small town
of Collioure, France, the birthplace of post-impressionist “Fauve” art movement and home to endless
creative inspiration, that Gimbel’s artistic ambitions expanded to painting professionally. Now a resident
of Southern California, Gimbel has found her artistic voice painting coastal landscapes and scenes from
nature expressed through geometric lines and bold colors. Gimbel uses exaggerated colors and abstract
patterns to express two views of nature; one of perfection when the painting is viewed from afar, and
one of reflection and expression as the process of paint layering and hand-drawn line is observed.
